Bio: Sean has been teaching at the Language Institute Chiang Mai University (LICMU) since 2009. Before working with LICMU, Sean worked at Bilkent University in Turkey as a EFL Instructor in the English Department. Sean holds a TEFL Diploma from Brighton University, UK (1989) as well as Diploma in Teacher Training from the British Council (2000). During semester breaks, Sean returns back to the UK to teach EAP at the University of Glasgow. Sean has extensive knowledge of SEA and has also worked in Vietnam as an Academic Manager.  




Roy Timothy Nixon

Bio: Tim joins LICMU from Uttaradit Rajabhat University where he worked as a Lecturer in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Education and International College. Tim holds a Master of Arts in English and Linguistics from University of Arkansas, USA (1989). Tim has taught in Thailand for over 9 years, including a year and a half at the Faculty of Humanities, Department of English at Chiang Mai University back in 2004. 





Paul Hesling

Bio: Paul graduated from the CMUTEFL Certificate Program in 2009 and has been a teaching at LICMU ever since. Paul previously served in Her Majesty's Armed Forces studying and teaching communication skills in English. At present, Paul is training Thai teachers how to teacher English to their students in Thai schools, and has run various teacher training workshops for local schools in Chiang Mai. Paul's extensive teaching career within the armed forces is now being put to use by the Royal Thai Airforce where he is teaching senior military officers. 





Robert Horton

Bio: Robert has been in education for 13 years, he has been teaching at LICMU since serving as Director for a private school in Korea.  Robert has also worked several years as an administrator in the United States and holds a Master of Art Degree in Educational Administration as well as three California State Teaching Credentials.  He has mentored and supported new teachers for several years across all grade levels (Kindergarten through University), including working with cohorts of student teachers at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California.  





Richard Channell

Bio: Richard holds extensive postgraduate qualifications including Master of Arts in TESOL (2011), Dip TESOL (2010) and Cert TESOL (2009) from Sheffield Hallam University in the United Kingdom. Prior to joining the Language Institute Chiang Mai University, Richard worked as a teacher trainer for the Chichester College TESOL program in Bangkok as well as teaching English at Chulalongkorn University. Richard brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Chiang Mai University TEFL program.

Chiang Mai University's Teaching English as a Foreign Language Certificate Program (CMUTEFL) is Chiang Mai's only 4-week university accredited TEFL certification program. This course offers university standard instruction for those who are interested in learning how to teach English to non-native speakers of the language, whilst at the same time immersing themselves in the culture and customs of Thailand, providing a holistic and rewarding experience

Study TEFL on a university campus

CMUTEFL will be operated on the main campus at Chiang Mai University. The university campus provides the perfect setting for academic study and recreational activity. The Language Institute Chiang Mai University will provide the setting for the CMUTEFL training at its multipurpose language and training facility.
